After some 26 seasons as Principal Flute with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, working with many of the world's finest musicians, David Nicholson is now devoting his time to recital work, adjudication, master classes and flute pedagogy. He also specialises in short intensive study periods for advanced students, particularly from overseas.

David directs the Edinburgh Flute Course which he founded in 1997, and he is a member of the flute faculty at the international summer music seminars at the Lake Placid Institute...

Update: May 2005
David has had a very interesting month in Canada and Australia. In Vancouver he shared a weekend "Flute Fest" with Sir James Galway, delivering a master class on the day following that of Sir James. He then spent several days giving individual lessons to flute students at the University of British Columbia.

From there David went to the 12th Australian Flute Convention, held in the beautiful resort of Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales coast. There he gave a recital of British music, gave master classes and individual lessons, and took part in some of the other concerts, as well as serving on the competion juries. This was a very well organised and attended event, with guest artists from The USA, Brazil, Italy, Peru and, in addition to David, flutist/composer Mike Mower, pianist Tim Carey, and Liz Goodwin of Flutewise, all from the UK.
